Over the past few years, we have had sushi from just about every restaurant and delivery service that cover N1, N5 and N7.
Sushi delivery in Islington usually falls in to one of two distinct camps:
- Food good, but delivery sketchy – late deliveries, missing items etc.
- Delivery great but food sketchy – chewy cuts of sashimi, etc.
The Islington sushi that smashes this stereotype and stands head and shoulders above the rest in quality is Zen Mondo on Upper Street, N1 2XQ.
The only sushi restaurant in Islington that is head chef owned and run, Zen Mondo’s attention to detail really shows in the excellent preparation and presentation displayed in their dishes. Most importantly, the quality is consistently high. In upwards of twenty visits and takeaways in the last year, we have only ever had one item that was sub-par – a ‘special’ of Chu-toro (fatty tuna) which was a bit stringy and was replaced without fuss, and also removed from the bill.
We have eaten at just about all the top London sushi haunts like Nobu, Zuma and Roka before and while they can’t be touched when it comes to reputation and exclusivity, we can honestly say that Zen Mondo is right up there when it comes to quality – making it incredible value for money considering it doesn’t charge anywhere near the same prices.
UPDATE: One of our most exciting moments of 2014 was discovering that Zen Mondo have partnered with delivery service http://www.dinein.co.uk to offer a sushi delivery service for Islington.
